4 Simple Tips to Make Haircuts Easier for Kids with Sensory Needs

April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to celebrate neurodiversity and support the autism community.

Haircuts can be challenging for kids with sensory sensitivities—bright lights, buzzing clippers, and unfamiliar sensations may make the experience stressful. But with the right preparation they can be much more comfortable.

At KidSnips, we offer sensory-friendly haircuts designed to meet your child’s needs. Whether that means a quieter environment, extra time to adjust, or skipping clippers, we’re here to help.

Here are a few of our favorite tips to prepare for your visit:

 1) Timing can make all the difference

Mornings or less busy hours often create a calmer environment.

 2) Familiar objects = instant comfort

A favorite toy or comfort item can provide security and familiarity.

3) Seeing it first can ease anxiety

Create simple stories or use picture sequences to explain what will happen during the haircut. Consider showing photos and videos from our Instagram to help your child know what to expect.

 4) The more we know, the better we can help

Fill out our Sensory Needs Form before your visit so we can help tailor the experience to your child’s needs.

At KidSnips, we’re here to help—and this April, your child’s haircut can help others too!

Every full-priced haircut (Monday–Friday) helps support an amazing cause—$1 from each one goes to Turning Pointe Autism Foundation. Book a haircut that works for your child—while giving back to the community!
