Look out for Lice!

by | Aug 30, 2017 | Hair help

As your child returns to school this month, they may join their classmates in a trend that is happening nationwide. School systems are doing lice checks in an effort to prevent outbreaks in the classroom.

September is National Lice Prevention Month. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of the highly communicable parasites that know no racial, ethnic or financial boundaries. According to the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 6 million to 12 million infestations occur each year in the United States among children ages 3 to 11.

The National Pediculosis Association says head lice can be spread when there is direct contact with an infested individual. The sharing of hats, hair brushes, pillow and accessories can increase the likelihood of spreading.

Here’s some helpful advice for parents to avoid the bothersome bugs.

–Keep an eye on your children. If they are itching, they may have been exposed.
–Do regular comb throughs and head checks as a part of your weekly routine.
–Advise children about the dangers of sharing hair accessories and tools.
–Be vigilant! If your child gets lice, treat immediately.
–Check out our instructions video on how to do quick and easy lice checks at home.

As a parent it’s important to know that when visiting any of KidSnips’ eight salons that each client is thoroughly checked for head lice. As we strive to have only the highest sanitary standards, we will not service clients who have visible head lice or nits. We look forward to giving your child a haircut once they are lice free.
